Good shopping at Kenny’s CreekGOOD functional productive females were on the shopping list for many Angus breeders last week at the Kenny’s Creek female sale, where buyers were presently surprised, buying quality females at very affordable rates. There were 40 of 63 cows and calves, donor cows, PTIC two year old heifers and a selection of young heifers sold to $4500 tops to average #2781 across the board. In the breakdown four donor cows sold to the sale top of $4500 to average $3063, three 14 month old heifers averaged $2083 and 33 cow and calf units topped at $4250, averaging $2811. Kenny’s Creek Angus stud principal Nick Burton-Taylor said the sale went quiet well considering the current economic climate and seasonal conditions across the country, with buyers getting some great females very cheap. Landmark studstock agent Andrew Wishart, Cootamundra, came and bought the top donor cow, for S and R Digorgio, Serita Park Angus, Lucindale, South Australia, at $4500.
Stud activity was good on the females with buyers picking through the line up for what they wanted. KO Angus manager Tim Lord, Kangaloon, was one who bought two of the four donor cows sold and another cow PTIC to Kenny’s Creek Eclipse W111 out of the donor cow Barra W40, who had registered 40 progeny for $2417 average. Michael Jones, Aberdeen estate Angus, Fitzroy Falls, averaged three females for $2583 including a cow out of the donor program Kennys Creek Mittagong B243, by Eclipse and top 10 per cent in the breed for 200,400 and 600 day and eye muscle area and top five per cent for all Index’s and intra muscular fat. The big mover on the day was Barnhill Angus stud, Orbost, Victoria, buying nine cow and calf units for the upset money $2500 each, while Bill and Shauna Graham, Bongongo Angus, Coolac, paid $4000 for a Booroomooka Undertaken daughter with a Mohnen Dynamite calf at foot. Manager of N BAR Angus, Goulburn, Damien Cooper, paid equal top cow and calf money of $4250 for Kenny’s Creek Wilcoola Y55, by New Dimension 7127 and then a top performing cow for himself and his wife Jayne at $2750. John Nixon, Roslyn, competed well also paying the $4250 price for four cow and calf units and a young heifer at $2000 to average $2900 for the draft. Peter McInnes, Macksville, bought four cow and calf units for $2688, while Dean Fredericksen, Orange, averaged three out at $3167 and Mootatunga Angus. Mt Gambier, SA, completed the sale with two females at $3500 and $3000 and four embryos at 4450 a pop. Elders conducted the sale and Andy McGeoch and Steve Ridley auctioneered. By BRETT TINDA |
