I am just back from a shotgun visit to Shanghai for the SIAL Food Expo and we are into the last few days before the Female Sale (next Wednesday!). Confidence is high in China at the moment and despite the much greater levels of competition from European and American markets there was solid demand for Australian meat products.
At the end of this email you will see an invitation to a LAMB seminar we are hosting with Gundagai Meat Processors on 29 May. We have limited spots so if you are interested reply to me or to Bill Scott (bill@kennyscreek.com.au). GMP have just upgraded their facility and it is the best lamb plant I have seen, well worth a look if you can make time.
Hope to see some of you at the sale next week or at the very least letting kids under the age of four loose on the Auctions Plus website between 1-2pm.
Have a great weekend
Sam

China

Always excited flying into China but it is not like flying into Sydney!
SIAL tradeshow is held annually and KC has exhibited for the last five years. We were happy to be spectators this year.
Exhibition halls are a lot bigger than they look. Every one of the halls had something in it. They call it the biggest food expo in Asia.
Southern Blue Fin Tuna from Port Lincoln. The importers were saying to me that it is all exported and you cannot buy in Australia.
This piece of tuna was cut from the belly or what they were calling the Toro. Amazing marbling and flavour.
Talking points at SIAL
  • African Swine Fever and tightening global protein supplies
  • The impact of the trade wars on China and US trade (USA beef now gets a 57% tariff when entering China!)
FSR
  • For March the FSR (female slaughter ratio) has hit the highest monthly figure of 58.1%
  • Over the next few mnths the FSR is expected to peak
  • Historically the peak in the FSR corresponds with upward trend of the EYCI
